Laird Family 2014 Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
93 points - James Suckling - "Aromas of blueberries, currants, spices and concrete. Medium to full body, firm and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Needs time to soften but so pretty already. Drink or hold."
For over forty years, the Laird Family has been growing grapes in the Napa Valley. They only select and use only 2% of the fruit they grow for their limited production wines; the rest is sold to other winemakers. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from two of their vineyards: 70% from Flat Rock Ranch for its juicy and vibrant approachability, and 30% from Mast Ranch for its earthy, tannic structure. Both single vineyard designates of Yountville Appellation, these vineyards possess a cross section of geomorphic and micro-climate idiosyncrasies poised to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon of approachable refinement.
Tasting Notes - Opaque ruby color with a tinge of purple introduces developing aromas of blackberry jam, cranberry, and acacia flower. This medium-bodied red wine expresses flavors of ripe black plum, walnut, and cassis on the front of the palate, and is complemented by chewy tannins and juicy cherry on the finish.
Varietal - This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from three vineyards: 42% Mast Ranch, for its earthy and robust structure, 35% Flat Rock Ranch, for its fruit-forward characteristic and silky structure, and 23% Linda Vista Ranch, for its juicy and vibrant approachability.
Aged 21 months in 42% new French oak.
