A rush of dark red and purplish stone fruit, mint, new leather, spice and blood orange give the 2015 a very decidedly exotic character that is impossible to miss. Raspberry jam, mocha, new leather and expressive floral notes appear with time in the glass, rounding things out nicely. Even though the 2015 is quite forward and open at this stage, the wine has plenty of stuffing as well as the underlying structure to support many years of exceptional drinking. This is a stellar showing for Lynch-Bages. The nose is closed right now, and the tannins lend a certain austerity. After a few minutes, the loganberry and blackberry notes come through, along with liquorice and fresh mint leaf. Although the tannins remain insistent, the light begins to filter in. This is an excellent Lynch-Bages which displays the solid masculine frame that has become more apparent over the past few years. Notes of ripe blackcurrants, caramelized cherries, tobacco leaf and a kiss of lead pencil all emerge from this textbook Pauillac that has medium to full-bodied richness, notable concentration, and building structure. Made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that saw 75% new barrels, it needs 5-7 years of cellaring and will be one of the longer-lived wines from the Médoc. 94+ (11/2017)

94 points Wine Spectator - This has an ample core of plum, fig and blackberry compote flavors, underlined liberally with graphite and smoldering tobacco notes. Sun-warmed herbs accompany sand, lavender and raspberry on the nose. It has good aromatic freshness and definition, and the full-bodied palate is also clean, super-fresh and lively. It's dense and ripe, defined by serrated tannins, keen acidity and a mouth-coating character. It comes from the Combe, Patou, La Côte, Les Mazards and Chaillot lieux-dits and is partially destemmed and brought up mostly in neutral barrels. Lifted notes of black and blue fruits, damp earth, spring flowers, and violets all emerge from this full-bodied, concentrated yet elegant red that stays balanced on the palate, with good acidity. Claude Morey, a native of Paris l’Hôpital, a small commune of Saône-et-Loire lying some six miles from Chassagne-Montrachet, arrived in the village in 1643. He and his numerous descendants worked in the vineyards or as coopers. It wasn’t until the end of the 19th century that vine growing became their principal activity. Since then, generation has followed generation, acquiring by inheritance or purchase, plots of vineyards or fallow land and passing these on to their descendants. Today, the domaine has evolved considerably from what it was in the days of Thomas Morey’s grandparents. Thomas Morey belongs to the 10th generation of the Morey family. He grew up familiar with his grandparents’ holdings and then worked for 12 years on that of his parents. In 2006, he and his wife Sylvie decided to set up their own domaine together. Thus the Thomas Morey domaine put its name to its first vintage in 2007, crafting elegant, lively, mineral, rich, silky and appealing wines ever since.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0242/0683/products/mywineplus.com-Thomas-Morey-Pommard-Les-Chanlins-Premier-Cru-Burgundy-France.png?v=1633666076
thierry-et-pascale-matrot-2013-monthelie-rouge-burgundy-france
Thierry et Pascale Matrot 2013 Monthelie Rouge Burgundy France
Thierry Matrot is a fourth-generation winemaker in Burgundy, who makes wine like his great grandparents did: naturally. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, it has brilliant purity of fruit, a layered, building sense of structure, and a great finish. It has an intriguing bouquet, quite complex and classic in style, featuring tightly wound black fruit mixed with cedar, mint and touches of the estuary. One sniff and you know that the vines are in close proximity to the sea. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive weight on the entry, the tannins almost immediately coating the mouth (the IPT is 93, fairly high). But everything remains balanced thanks to the fine acidic thread, and it begins to firm up, becoming quite structured and, dare I say, reminiscent of Latour toward the finish. This is a Lynch-Bages that clearly will deserve long-term aging because there is real substance to this wine, and that will only increase during élevage. This is a great Lynch-Bages. It is being aged in French oak barrels, 30% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out of the glass with pretty, open-knit scents of stewed black plums, boysenberries and warm cassis, plus savory hints of charcuterie, woodsmoke, black truffles and bouquet garni. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with crunchy black fruit flavors and dried herbs accents, supported by bags of freshness and well-managed, grainy tannins, finishing with great length and a lively skip in its step.

92 Points Decanter - Maintains both a spiced kick and creamy texture through the palate, giving form and character.
