Zorah 2016 Karasi Armenia Red Wine
Decanter 95 points
Wine & Spirits Magazine - 94 points
GRAPE VARIETY –ARENI - Possibly one of the oldest grape varieties in the world, Areni has been present in Armenia for millennia. Two weeks ago, Wine & Spirits Magazine rated this wine 94 points and described the grape as “An Ancient Grape with a Tantalizing Future.” Never grafted and on its own roots, it is 100% indigenous to Armenia with a unique DNA profile that does not match any other. Extremely resistant to disease and with a very thick skin, Areni has developed the unique capacity to adapt perfectly to the extreme climate of Rind, Vayots Dzor, its natural habitat.
2016 VINTAGE INFORMATION - A great year characterized by a long, hot summer with high day-time temperatures and strong sunlight balanced with fresh cool nights, with day/night temperature differences averaging 20°C during ripening season. Dry until end of September. Harvest mid / end of October.
The Zorah Areni vines are ten years old and have produced a “gorgeous red in 2016: Fermented spontaneously in the traditional Armenian earthenware karas (amphora) and aged in unlined concrete vats, the wine feels cool, firm and juicy, with an acidity that gives it a sheer texture despite the depth of its dark-plum fruit.” John Szabo, MS Wine & Spirits Magazine
