Tasting Notes - Aromatics: The 2011 Ketcham Estate-Ketcham Vineyard Pinot Noir aims for depth, intensity, power and breadth, but not at the sacrifice of nuance and complexity. It hits its mark perfectly. This Pinot is about much more than just profound RRV red fruit, as it has impeccable balance. Nothing is shy about the wine; the acidity snaps at you, the mid palate is a layered plethora of red and dark fruits, minerals and spice and the finish is ripe, supple and long.
Palate: The palate’s flavor profile personifies Russian River Valley with dark cherry, red cherry, raspberry, cola, sassafras, tiny hints of sage, clean earth, even a tiny nuance of nutmeg to round out the palate. It continually evolves in your glass and continues to evolve wonderfully at each taste. This wine should be laid done for 6 months to a year (if you have the patience) and will drink beautifully for 6-7 years.
Vineyard: Russian River Valley is their heart and home when it comes to Pinot Noirs. Ketcham Vineyard wines embody the unique qualities that only the Russian River Valley can offer — that wonderful blend of spices, sassafras, red and dark fruits, and the beautiful balance that incontrovertibly is present in every bottle of Ketcham Estates Pinot Noir.
Ketcham Estate wines are produced from our 17-acre vineyard just off of Eastside Road south of Healdsburg, CA. Our vineyard contains multiple microclimates due to the cooling westerly winds and the variety of soil structures from our winding creek that borders the eastern and southern property perimeters. The diversity of climate and soil, as well as the many Dijon and Pommard clones, provides the wine with broad flavor profiles, great depth and structure. Ketcham Estates “Old Vine” Pommard-4 block, the oldest vines in the vineyard, are over 25 years old.
