From the Russian River Valley and the newest single vineyard from this team (the first vintage was 2012), the 2013 Pinot Noir Giusti Vineyard is another big, rich, full-flavored Pinot Noir that gives up slightly lifted notes of dark fruits, graphite and peppery spice. Almost completely destemmed and aged 16 months in 40% new French oak, it’s a sensational Pinot Noir with terrific purity in its concentrated, layered and textured personality. It's superb today, but will cruise through at least 2023. (JD) (10/2015)

A real stand out, the 2013 Pinot Noir Giusti Ranch is the most exciting wine in this range from Kosta Browne. A wild, almost exotic bouquet melds into a core of intense, punchy fruit, all supported by vibrant beams of acidity and tannin. Pomegranate, blood orange, spices and mint explode onto the resonant finish. The interplay of structure and the overt fruit is super-intriguing. At times, a hint of whole clusters comes through, but the 2013 was done with fully destemmed fruit. This is one of the most complete and compelling wines I have tasted from Kosta Browne. Readers who have access to the 2013 should not hesitate, as it is truly superb. (AG) (3/2015)

Deceptively complex, with subtle, vibrant raspberry and blackberry flavors that are fresh and vibrant, revealing touches of black cherry and red plum that are expansive. Ends with a touch of crushed rock and fresh-turned earth. Drink now through 2022. (JL) (8/2015)

Giusti Ranch, once known as “La Colina” (The Hill), was founded by Angelo Giusti Sr. in the 1870s, one of the first Italian immigrant families to settle in Forestville region. Giusti Ranch has made a significant impact on Sonoma County agriculture for over 140 years. The Ranch has contributed their farming and services to different parts of the community with several crops over the last century, including olives, grapes, cherries, prunes, apples, and now back to grapes in the 2000. Today, the family legacy continues with grapes and olives. In 2000, the family planted 9 of its remaining 22 acre Russian River Valley appellation ranch with Pinot Noir clones 777, 667 and 115. Since 2009, the grapes have been sold to Kosta Browne Winery. This ranch is truly a Sonoma County treasure and we are fortunate to have access to this incredible vineyard.

AROMATICS: The wine shows enticing aromas of cinnamon, rich red and black berries, along with baked cherry pie.

ON THE PALATE: This fresh California Pinot is typical of the Russian River Valley appellation, and shows layered flavors of black cherry and blackberry fruit compote.
