The Santa Barbara County vineyards that the grapes for this wine come from are fairly cool, which leads to wines with perhaps slightly more old-world inflection than those from our other vineyards. This 2014 bottling is a wine of grace, restraint, nuance, and quiet power. Seeing 50% stem inclusion during fermentation and 50% new French oak barrels during aging, this dark garnet wine delivers a nose of old-fashioned roses, mint, and lavender, while the palate shows sun-warmed boysenberry, olive leaf, and almond paste. This will amply reward time in decanter, or, for those who can wait, a few years in the cellar.
The grapes were sourced River Bench Vineyard.
