This beautiful “crimson tide” comes to you from the gravelly western shores of the Gironde estuary in Bordeaux, France. Château German-Marbuzet is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot , and 10% Cabernet Franc creating an exceptional richly-colored, deeply-flavored wine that is known for its longevity. Heady floral aromas of jasmine and rose meld with blueberry, while the freshness of licorice complements the full-bodied flavor of black currants.
The Saint-Estephe AOC is separated from its famous neighbor, Pauillac, by a stream, yet the terroir is significantly different. Saint-Estephe’s soil is full of clay, particularly beneficial to the vines during drought-like summers, and the climate is made more temperate by the nearby Garonne River. Winemaker and owner Didier Marcelis uses the traditional Bordeaux method to create his German-Marbuzet, aging the wine in French oak barrels for 16 months and maturing it on fine lees with regular stirring.
Monsieur Marcelis left a successful IT career to take over the stewardship of his grandfather’s winery in 2003. His stated mission is to produce “charming wines that offer bang for the buck.” Mission accomplished with his 2010 Château German-Marbuzet, an excellent bargain to accompany your next meal of Gigot a La Cuillere or Pigeonneau Fermier Rôti.
Vintner Didier Marcelis, owner of Château German-Marbuzet and Château Serilhan, calls himself “The Last of the Mohicans” being among the last winemakers still living in the Saint-Estephe AOC of Bordeaux. He identifies with his wines passionately, with all his heart and soul, and he believes the correct question to ask a winemaker is not “How is your wine tasting?” but rather, “How are you tasting?”
TASTING NOTES - Powerful, elegantly oaked wine with aromas of red and black fruits, spice, and lightly toasted notes that showcases the tradition of Bordeaux winemaking expertise.
