Los Chamizal Vineyards are the estate vineyards of Haywood Wines. Chamizal ~ a Spanish word which translates to “a thicket of hardwood”, closely describes the rugged valley, folded between the ridges of the Mayacamus Mountains, which Peter Haywood chose as the site for his vineyards in 1973. To plant his grapes the thickets had to be cleared and terraces carved into the hillside.
Made from grapes receiving cool exposure – being planted on northern facing terraces, high above the town of Sonoma – this wine is fermented and aged in French oak.
