MELIS 2015 Priorat Spain
The prestige and reputation of high quality MELIS wines is due to the unique identity of their lands, altitude and orientation, history and vineyard, which gives this PRIORAT wine a unique nature, not in vain is one of the most appreciated wines in the world.
Added to a philosophy so that our wines reflect that soul, authenticity and essence, this is reflected in the different press releases.
WINEMAKING: It is a wine from the MELIS ESTATE in Torroja del Priorat, a place where the sun rounds the tannins and concentrate the aromas to reach their maximum expression. Grapes come from the vineyard that is hand harvested later, almost at the end of November. In addition to a vineyard sorting, clusters were selected by hand in the cellar, gently de-stemmed, jack-stems removed by hand and placed in 2 ton stainless steel square tanks and 600 liter open barrels for fermentation. Fermentation was long and slow, with a maceration of about 35-40 days. Later, the drop wines were transferred to the same barrels and aged during 18 months. The remaining skins, so matured, were pressed very gently to obtain a high content of mature polysaccharides, responsible of its great volume in mouth, very characteristic among all of MELIS wines, a symbol of our winemaking style. 100% of the wine was aged in French oak burgundy barrels and later bottled without any clarification or filtration.
CHARACTER: Melis presents a deep dark purple color with beautiful flower aromas, expressing the extreme maturation of Grenache, blackberry, tobacco and violets, as well as mineral notes that come from the slate soil (“licorella”) of our vineyard. The palate is full and powerful, with a silky texture balanced by fine tannins and polysaccharides providing a long finish. We recommend decanting this wine between 45 and 60 minutes before tasting.
