94 Points - James Suckling:
"Aromas of blueberries, blackcurrants and wet earth. Some fresh mushrooms. Full body, medium velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Tight and structured. Needs two to three years to open. Impressive." (Jan 2017)
Named after To Kill a Mockingbird from Boo Beckstoffer’s favorite author, Harper Lee, Mockingbird was crafted as a living embodiment of Harper Lee’s admonition: “You never really understand a man until you consider things from his point of view. . . until you climb inside his skin and walk around in it.”
This wine tells Tuck’s personal story: the story of a boy who grew up among the vines, who matured by walking, studying and learning from the land, and who devoted himself to sharing the best of his Napa Valley. By combining our family’s vineyards in Napa Valley and blending Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Verdot, this wine is the culmination of 40 years of devotion to grape growing and winemaking.
Mockingbird is the consummate expression of our devotion to our craft. Our flagship wine, Mockingbird is everything we love about our land, our work, and our valley. Aromas of plums, dried herbs, black cherry and spice highlight this full bodied wine. In addition to powerful fruit aromatics, there are layers of cocoa and spice. The wine is just over 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance being Merlot. The fruit was grown primarily at the estate vineyard in St Helena with the balance coming from a vineyard in the western hills of Calistoga.
