At Raidis Estate handcrafted wines are made to be shared with friends and family. Whether you've come together to celebrate Mother's Day or your daughter's graduation from college or friends have come over for dinner Tuesday night, Raidis Cabernet will do the job. Raidis Family's Greek Heritage has inspired them to work with the land. Leaving Greece more than 60 years ago, Chris and Fran have worked the Terra Rossa soils of Coonawarra growing tomatoes, lettuces and strawberries before Steven joined his parents in the family business, together planting vines in 1990. So in 1990 Chris planted the southern Vineyard with 6 acres each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Shiraz. .
The family has a vision that their wines will be enjoyed by people from all walks of life with good food and good friends. The cellar door will incorporate this philosophy with a resurgence of the famous Coonawarra Charcoal Grill and Wood Oven opening for special occasions so that great food can be enjoyed alongside our quality wine.
The Raidis Family winemaking goals are simple; strive to make the best quality wines possible that truly represent the family's heritage and their vineyards. The wines are a direct reflection of the vineyard and the season in which they were grown. They hand select the fruit to ensure only the best grapes make it to the winery. As part of their aim to be as sustainable as possible they allow their goats into the vineyards after hand selection to eat the remaining grapes. This helps to keep the vineyard clean, minimizing disease pressure in the growing season. The goats eat grass & weeds during the winter so that they do not need to spray or slash during this period. The Family strives to make fruit-driven, food-friendly wines that reflect the vineyard. They believe the balance between fruit, acid, oak, tannin, and texture is essential to their wines and our enjoyment!
The 2013 Raidis Estate Billy Cabernet Sauvignon represents a great value on a Cabernet from what many people consider to be the most prestigious appellation in Australia for Cabernet Sauvignon. The reason? Wonderful texture, a cool but full-fruited demeanor, complexity, and an elegance that many Cabernets from Napa can't achieve.
This wine represents a great value. Stock Up, Summer is upon us!!
