A round and delicious wine with bright fruit and fine tannins. Medium body, lovely flavors and a fresh finish. Blend of cabernet sauvignon and sangiovese. — James Suckling
Made with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese, this offers enticing aromas of black-skinned berry, iris and cedar. The savory, balanced palate delivers red currant, dried black cherry, star anise and white pepper alongside fine-grained tannins. — Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast
Tenuta San Guido is located on the Tuscan coast in Bolgheri, where the gravel soil combined with tempering maritime breezes creates an optimal mesoclimate for international varieties.
Terroir & Vineyards
Tenuta San Guido estate consists of 4,500 acres, of which 180 acres are planted in vines spread among 8 separate parcels. The cordon spur pruning method is employed and yields are kept to less than 2.5 tons per acre.
The two main vineyards are Castiglioncello and Sassicaia, which were planted between 1965 and 1985 in successive phases along with the 20-acre parcel Aia Nuova. A more recent vineyard, called Quercione, was planted from cuttings from the Sassicaia parcel in 1989 and 1990 and is sited on a stony ridge high above the winery.
Fruit for Le Difese is selected from Tenuta San Guido estate’s younger vines. Fermentation for both varieties takes place on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is matured in French and American oak barrels.
Intense black fruit aromas and flavors as well as the vanilla and spice of oak in a full-bodied wine with supple tannins.
Casual beef dishes such as steaks on the grill or hamburgers.
