Vineyard Skellenger Vineyard, Oakville Napa Valley. This phenomenal site sits nestled among the neighboring Cabernet vineyards of Rudd and Screaming Eagle in the northern most portion of the Oakville appellation.
Vintage Notes 2016 was one of the most exciting vintages, in a string of great vintages, that we have been able to capture in a bottle yet. With little rain from the 2015 winter, the vines woke up early. 2016 had an even ripening season with cooler than average highs during the day and our classic cool nights that lengthened the season compared to 2015. The end of August through the beginning of September was also quite cool, which helped to separate the early varietals from the later ones and increased the amount of hang time for the later sites. The vineyard’s climate allowed the acids, flavors, and sugars to realign and become more in balance. We had three weeks in a row where the sugar did not move, acids stayed high, but the flavors and textures started to shine. This is a winemaker’s dream vintage! – Jesse Katz
