In 1876 a young Thomas Hardy recognized the potential that lay within the unique soils of McLaren vale and made his mission to create wines that were a true expression of this remarkable region. Founded in 1871, Tintara the home of Hardys remains a testament to quality winemaking, combining old age methods and new technology
Winemaker’s Notes - The fruit for this Shiraz was sourced from premium 15-70-year-old vineyards in McLaren Vale. Vines are grown in various soil types, but mostly in free draining red sandy loams over limestone or clay.
Fruit was gently pressed through 90-year-old basket press and matured in oak barriques for 12 months prior to bottling; each individual vineyard parcel was kept separate prior to blending and bottling.
The final wine reflects the classic McLaren Vale Shiraz plush texture and the palate is filled with complex fruit characters.
Vintage - 2014 saw above average winter rains flushed and filled the soil profile with good moisture levels. A relatively dry spring was balanced by significant late January rainfall that pushed back what was looking like an early vintage. Good vine canopies, moderate berry size and yields for Shiraz combined with a long cool finish to the growing season have resulted in a very strong McLaren Vale vintage for Shiraz.
Tasting Notes - A classic example of McLaren Vale Shiraz displaying plum, dark berry fruits and rich dark chocolate. The palate is supple & soft, full of generous sweet fruits combined with fine tannin structure and balanced integrated oak.
