Torrin 2014 Akasha Syrah Paso Robles
100 points Jeb Dunnuck
94 points Vinous
“(60% new French oak) Vivid purple. Dark berry preserves, smoky Indian spices, incense and a hint of vanilla on the exotically perfumed nose. Intense, palate-staining black and blue fruit, mocha and violet pastille flavors become more energetic as the wine stretches out. Rich and densely packed but surprisingly lively thanks to a core of juicy acidity. Closes on a youthfully tannic note, displaying excellent focus and floral-driven persistence. (JR)” (11/2017)
Winemaker Comments: 100% Syrah. From cool north and east faces in the Willow Creek District and York Mountain this is a remarkable example of what Syrah can do in cooler sub areas of warm regions. Additional 16 months bottle age prior to release. 90% destemmed plus 10% that was 100% whole cluster fermented. 7 day cold maceration, small open top fermentors and open top puncheons, native yeast, punch downs on skins for 5 weeks and basket pressed at dryness.
