Van Ardi 2016 Syrah Kakhet Reserve Dry Red Wine Armenia
Grape Varietals: Grown on own-rooted vines in Ashtarak, Armenia. The expression of this international variety combined with the local Kakhet, makes this a unique wine. A limited production reserve. Syrah (50%), Kakhet (50%).
Terroir: The vineyards (9ha) are located in Ashtarak, in the ancient winemaking region of Aragatsotn in Armenia. The soil is volcanic and rich with natural rocks and minerals. The plot is positioned on hills with south and south-west facing slopes, at an altitude of 1,000m ASL. The climate provides long hours of sun in the day, and cooler temperatures at night. Our personal winemaking philosophy also contributes to our terroir; combining tradition, innovation, and passion.
Vinification: The wine is made with a selective harvest, followed by a primary and malolactic fermentation, clarification and filtration. It has aged 14 months in French and Karabagh oak barrels.
The Vintage: The annual precipitation for the year of 2016 was average, and the amount of active temperatures were reliable, guaranteed favorable night and day contrasts in temperature. This is evident in the well-balanced structure of the wine. Extensive, long dry weather kept diseases at bay, bringing in the crop with excellent health. Some of the more intense heat of the year was blunted by the altitude of the vineyard that brought cool nights. Harvest: late September - mid October.
Tasting Notes: The wine’s deep purple tone is eye-catching, leaving a strong first impression. Its aromas are lush, of sweet dark berries, vanilla, faint hints of tobacco and spices. Combined with similarly distinctive flavors, rich tannins the wine has a velvety finish, it is a unique and delectable wine.
