93 pts Jeb Dunnuck - Kitty-corner to our famed Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard, this vineyard nestled on the same alluvial soils and is the original homestead of Dr. Crane’s winemaker (and the first winemaker in Napa Valley) Henry Pellet. The vineyard has matured tremendously over the past 2 years, showing the textures, verve and anise undertones of its prestigious neighbors. Dark garnet to the rim with a slight purple hue, the clarity of this wine shows off its overall brightness, purity and depth. Scents of dark and red raspberries so strong you don't even have to put your nose to the glass.  The mid palate is filled with spice box, herbs of Provence and mocha, setting the stage for rollercoaster of complexities and multi-level layers.  A true cornucopia of cool-toned red/blue fruits, graphite and coffee undertones; this twenty-seventeen is balanced, on point, long and focused. Give this wine a year or two in bottle to bring together the subtle nuances and hidden layers.

Vineyard - Pellet Vineyard, Clone 4

Wine Profile - Silky smooth and slightly coy, the vibrant and lively, the Pellet Vineyard is really hitting its stride. Kiddy-corner to the famed Beckstoffer Dr Crane vineyard, this wine shines of gravely red fruit, hints of licorice and a deep ruby opulent mid palate that is out of this world.

Palate Impressions - Dense purple color to the rim, this 98-case cuvee' boasts an extraordinary nose of cedar, licorice, spice box and loads of creme de cassis. Blueberry and Blackberry liquor with light hints of forest floor and tobacco are all present, intermingling and fragrant. The mid palate is striking; full of tremendous opulence, intensity and overall harmony.  If you enjoy a vibrant and rich cabernet, with the slight grip of seamlessly integrated tannin and balance, this is your beauty!

Quivet Context - Henry Pellet was one of the original pioneers of the Napa Valley in 1859. He was part of the an exciting time in Napa Valley's history along with contemporaries Charles Krug, John Patchett, HW Crabb (ToKalon), and Dr. G.B.Crane. He purchased land and planted vineyards in St. Helena next to his neighbor, Dr. Crane and made wine that was highly acclaimed for himself and his neighbors, beginning with the initial vintages for Dr. Crane. His drive and tenacity for quality drives us to continue his legacy on this historic Estate vineyard.
