Il Macchione 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG – Tuscany, Italy
Overview
The Il Macchione 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG captures the soul of Tuscany in every glass. Crafted in the historic Caggiole district of Montepulciano—an area prized since Etruscan times for its noble vineyards—this exquisite red wine is made entirely from Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese) grapes grown organically on the estate’s rolling hills.
Il Macchione’s meticulous craftsmanship honors centuries of Tuscan tradition while embracing a deep respect for nature and balance. The result is an elegant, terroir-driven Vino Nobile that balances richness and finesse, structure and charm.
Vineyards & Winemaking
The Il Macchione estate encompasses just over seven hectares of prime vineyard land at 350 meters elevation, perfectly exposed to sun and breeze. The silty-clay soils, enriched with limestone and marine sediment, lend depth and minerality to the wine. The vineyards are cultivated sustainably—without herbicides or systemic chemicals—using green manure, natural extracts, and copper-sulfur treatments to preserve the vitality of the vines.
Only the finest clusters of Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile) are hand-harvested into small crates to avoid bruising. After temperature-controlled fermentation on the skins for 15 to 30 days, the wine matures in a combination of 5-hectoliter tonneaux and 30-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels for 14–16 months, followed by extended refinement in larger casks and bottle. The result is a wine of noble complexity and graceful longevity.

This Vino Nobile di Montepulciano pairs beautifully with classic Tuscan cuisine and hearty dishes such as:
- Tagliatelle with wild-boar ragù
- Risotto with porcini mushrooms
- Roasted lamb or grilled steak
- Game meats and truffle-infused dishes
- Medium-aged cheeses like Pecorino Toscano
Its firm structure and refined tannins also make it ideal for cellaring and special-occasion meals.
Heritage & Sustainability
The Il Macchione philosophy revolves around harmony between man and nature. The estate’s ecological farming practices foster biodiversity, enhance soil life, and promote self-sustaining vineyard ecosystems. Each vintage reflects this commitment to purity, vitality, and authenticity, producing wines that are as alive as the land they come from.
The Montepulciano area has been celebrated for winemaking since the 5th century BC, when Etruscans first cultivated vines here. The term “Vino Nobile”—meaning “noble wine”—was immortalized in the 17th century and officially recognized as Italy’s first DOCG wine in 1980.
