GOLD Medal – USA Wine Ratings 2024 (90 Points)
100% Rkatsiteli | Skin Contact Amber Wine | Qvevri-Aged | Natural Winemaking

Ancient Technique, Timeless Flavor – Georgia’s Signature Amber Wine

Crafted in the heart of Georgia’s Kakheti region using the revered Qvevri method, the 8000 Qvevri 2018 Rkatsiteli Dry Amber Wine is a stunning example of natural winemaking rooted in 8,000 years of tradition. This amber/orange wine is made from 100% Rkatsiteli grapes, fermented and aged on skins in clay amphorae buried underground. The result is a textural, full-bodied expression of Georgia’s iconic grape and terroir.

🍇 Grape Variety: Rkatsiteli

Rkatsiteli is one of the world’s oldest grape varieties, indigenous to Georgia. Revered for its versatility and structure, it is the most widely planted white grape in Georgia and a cornerstone of traditional Georgian amber wines. With naturally high acidity and complex aromatics, Rkatsiteli is ideal for Qvevri vinification and long skin contact, yielding wines with layered flavors and remarkable ageability.

📍 Wine Region: Gurjaani, Kakheti (PDO)

Located in the fertile Gurjaani micro-zone of Kakheti, eastern Georgia’s premier wine-producing region, this wine benefits from ideal growing conditions—plentiful sunshine, mineral-rich soils, and a centuries-old viticultural heritage. Gurjaani is especially renowned for Qvevri-aged wines, which are emblematic of Georgia’s ancient winemaking methods.

🌿 Natural Winemaking – The Qvevri Method

This wine is made using the ancient Qvevri (clay amphora) method, a UNESCO-listed technique unique to Georgia. The whole grape clusters—including skins, stems, and seeds—are fermented and aged underground for 4–6 months, resulting in a wine with remarkable structure, depth, and a distinctive amber hue. No filtration, no additives—just pure grape expression.
