🍷 La Spinona 2015 Sori Gepin Barolo DOCG – Piedmont, Italy

📝 Tasting Notes

La Spinona 2015 Sori Gepin Barolo DOCG is a beautifully structured and classically styled Barolo from the heart of Novello, one of Barolo’s most prestigious communes. Crafted exclusively from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in a 4-hectare single-vineyard with prime southern exposure, this vintage showcases the dedication and precision of five generations of the Berutti family.

This 2015 vintage pours a deep ruby red, developing into garnet hues with age, revealing the traditional character and longevity of great Barolo. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of dried cherry, raspberry coulis, scorched earth, tobacco, rose petals, and dried herbs, with subtle undertones of conifer and orange zest.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and focused, with vibrant flavors of black cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice, and forest floor, wrapped in firm yet velvety tannins and lifted by bright acidity. Its long, savory finish lingers with hints of spice, game, and minerality—classic traits of traditionally made Barolo.

The grapes are hand-harvested, meticulously sorted, and undergo natural fermentation with gentle extraction methods before being aged for 18 months in large Allier and Slavonian oak casks, followed by 12 months of bottle aging in the cellar. The result is a wine of purity, balance, and personality, made with no chemical herbicides or pesticides, aligning with La Spinona’s commitment to clean, natural winemaking.

A cellar-worthy Barolo, the 2015 Sori Gepin is approachable now with decanting and will continue to evolve beautifully through 2032.
