The 2019 Domaine Saint-Préfert Collection Charles Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most profound and collectible wines produced in the Southern Rhône. Crafted by renowned winemaker Isabel Ferrando of Famille Isabel Ferrando, this flagship cuvée represents the pinnacle of the historic Domaine Saint-Préfert estate.

Produced from a blend of 60% old-vine Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre, sourced from the rocky Les Serres and Le Cristia lieux-dits, the wine is built from vines ranging from 40 to over 100 years old, delivering extraordinary concentration and depth.

The terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is defined by its famous galets roulés—large stones and gravel soils that store heat during the day and release it at night, allowing the grapes to achieve optimal ripeness while maintaining balance and structure.

The 2019 vintage stands as the final release of the legendary Charles Giraud cuvée before the estate transitioned its wines under the new Famille Isabel Ferrando label. With extremely limited production—approximately 400 cases annually—this bottling has become one of the most sought-after modern Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines.

The wine reveals a deep, complex aromatic profile of blackberries, cassis, kirsch, garrigue, violets, licorice, and savory spices, layered with hints of peppery meat and crushed stone minerality. On the palate, it is full-bodied, seamless, and powerful, with velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and an exceptionally long finish marked by remarkable purity and balance.

Aged for approximately 18 months in large demi-muids, each grape variety is vinified and matured separately before blending. The result is a wine of extraordinary precision, elegance, and longevity that showcases the greatness of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

About the Producer

In 2002, former banker Isabel Ferrando purchased Domaine Saint-Préfert and quickly transformed the estate into one of the most respected producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Working with legendary consultant Philippe Cambie, she elevated the wines to international acclaim.

The estate practices biodynamic farming, earning certification in 2013, and focuses on expressing the character of its old-vine Grenache vineyards.

Following the 2019 vintage, the historic Domaine Saint-Préfert cuvées were consolidated under the Famille Isabel Ferrando label, making this 2019 Charles Giraud the final vintage of the wine—a significant milestone for collectors.
