2014: “Extraordinary” 90-92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Three Jacks Vineyard is a small vineyard in the heart of the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA and is farmed by the Dutton family. Hartford Family Winery has a long history with this vineyard; we bottled it as a designated vineyard from 1999 through 2004, and are delighted to once again be working with the fruit, starting with the 2012 vintage.
The vineyard is located on Graton Road next to the Dutton Shop, and is known to most as Triple JS—the name derived from the partnership of the owners—Joe, Juan, Jose and Steve. It was planted in 1995 to four clonal selections: old Wente, Rued, Dijon 95 and Clone 15. The name Three Jacks was coined in a barrel tasting with the 1999 vintage and has stuck ever since.
TASTING NOTES The Three Jacks Vineyard Chardonnay exhibits aromas of preserved lemon and orange marmalade, with juicy flavors of pear, candied citrus peel, chamomile and a rich, mineral driven texture. The wine is full-bodied, weighty, and rich yet remarkably agile on its feet because of firm underlying acidity.
