The author’s project of the Armenia’s first sparkling wine created by a classical method with ageing in a bottle. Keush can be considered the most mountainous classical sparkling wine in the world.
Vahe Keushgeryan (who has done a lot for development of modern winemaking in Armenia) and the oenologist Arman Manukyan (the specialist in indigenous varieties of grapes, the consultant of several perspective projects) works on embodiment of this project.
The project is focused at work with indigenous varieties of grapes. Blend for the first sample in the history of the project consist of varieties Khatun Kharji and Voskehat. At the moment the work on rose brut and the vintage “classical” sparkling wine Keush comes to the end.
It is important to note that grapes for production of sparkling wines the Keush are picked from old vines (not less than 40 years old) on mountain vineyards of the region Vayots Dzor (more than 1 500 meters above sea level).
Now wines are made and aged 15 months in Yerevan on winery of Semina Consulting. But Vahe Keushgeryan have a plan to transfer the Keush project to specially created winery in the village Khachik of the region Vayots Dzor, it is higher than 1 800 meters above sea level. After this Keush will finally fix a rank of most mountainous “classics”.
