Voerzio Martini 2019 Ciabot della Luna Langhe Nebbiolo DOC – Piedmont, Italy

Wine Overview

The Voerzio Martini 2019 Ciabot della Luna Langhe Nebbiolo DOC is an elegant expression of Piedmont’s most noble grape, Nebbiolo. Sourced from historic vineyards across La Morra, Barolo, Verduno, and Serralunga, this wine embodies the heritage and terroir of the Langhe. Produced from the rare Nebbiolo Michet clone, planted in 1985, the wine reflects meticulous vineyard management and the Voerzio Martini family’s philosophy of balancing tradition with innovation.

Vineyard & Terroir

  • Municipality: La Morra
  • Variety: 100% Nebbiolo (Michet clone)
  • Altitude: 440 meters above sea level
  • Soils: The vineyards are rooted in the Marl of Sant’Agata, a mix of clay, fine sand, and limestone, creating ideal conditions for Nebbiolo’s aromatic finesse and structure.
  • Farming: The family reduces yields through 4–5 manual green harvests per season, ensuring perfect cluster uniformity and ripeness.

The result is fruit of exceptional concentration, depth, and balance.

Vinification & Aging

  • Harvest: 100% manual, with grapes collected in small crates to preserve integrity.
  • Fermentation: 14–15 days in stainless steel with controlled temperature and oxygenation. Natural nitrogen handling preserves aromatics and minimizes sulfites.
  • Aging: 6–8 months in 500L French oak tonneaux (60% new, 40% second-use), imparting subtle spice without overwhelming Nebbiolo’s purity.
  • Dry Extract: 32 g/L, contributing to its body and persistence.

Tasting Notes

  • Color: Brilliant ruby red with violet reflections.
  • Nose: Delicate yet intense, unfolding layers of macerated rose petals, cherry pit, red forest berries, and subtle underbrush, with elegant notes of vanilla and sweet spice.
  • Palate: Medium to full-bodied with fine, well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. Flavors of ripe red fruit, cherry, musky undertones, and light floral notes evolve into hints of vanilla, spice, and earthy minerality.
  • Finish: Long, balanced, and persistent, with soft tannins that frame a lingering aftertaste of red fruits and musky spice.

This wine is approachable in youth yet structured enough to age gracefully, promising complexity for years to come.

Food Pairing

The 2019 Voerzio Martini Ciabot della Luna Langhe Nebbiolo DOC is an outstanding companion for classic Piedmontese cuisine and beyond:

  • Pasta & Risotto: Tajarin with truffle, mushroom risotto, or ragu alla piemontese.
  • Meats: Roasted pork, veal scaloppine, lamb chops, or game birds.
  • Cheese: Aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Pecorino Toscano, or Castelmagno.
