The Henri et Gilles Remoriquet 2023 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge “Les Dames Huguette” is an elegant and expressive Pinot Noir from the historic Remoriquet family estate in Burgundy’s renowned Côte de Nuits. Produced from high-altitude vineyards above Nuits-Saint-Georges, this wine captures the freshness, aromatic precision, and structure that make the region one of the world’s most celebrated homes for Pinot Noir.

The Remoriquet family has been crafting wines in Burgundy for over four generations, with the domaine’s roots tracing back to Louis Remoriquet and Hélène Lacour in the late 19th century. Hélène became a pioneer in Burgundy, recognized in 1948 as the first female winegrower inducted into the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.

Today the estate spans 9.5 hectares across the Côte de Nuits, including parcels in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, and the Hautes Côtes de Nuits. Gilles Remoriquet, who took over the domaine in 1979 after studying viticulture in Beaune and earning a National Diploma in Oenology from the University of Dijon, continues the family’s tradition alongside his cousin Patricia Guenot.

The vineyard parcels for “Les Dames Huguette” lie on the plateau above Nuits-Saint-Georges at approximately 400 meters elevation, extending the famous Premier Cru vineyards Les Procès, Les Pruliers, Les Poirets, and Les Crots. These sites are planted on deep clay-limestone soils enriched with argovian marls, producing wines that combine freshness, generosity, and solid structure.

The name “Les Dames Huguette” carries a touch of local legend. According to tradition, mysterious woodland spirits known as the “Dames Huguette” were said to roam these wooded slopes. Others trace the name to a Protestant family who once owned land in the area, later remembered as the “Dames Huguette” after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685.

Winemaking

The grapes are carefully sorted at the winery before undergoing partial or complete destemming depending on the vintage. A pre-fermentation cold maceration lasting 3–4 days preserves aromatic purity, followed by a gentle fermentation and cuvaison of 15–20 days to extract delicate tannins and expressive fruit.

The wine is then aged for 12–14 months in French oak barrels, with approximately 10% new oak, before a light filtration prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes

This Pinot Noir reveals elegant aromas of fresh red berries, raspberry, and soft baking spices.

On the palate, the wine offers a beautiful balance of freshness and generosity, with silky texture, bright fruit, and a well-structured finish typical of high-elevation Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir.
