Château de Beaucastel is a French winery known for its long-lived Châteauneuf du Pape wines. It is located in the southern portion of the Rhône valley. Beaucastel utilizes a higher-than-usual proportion of Mourvèdre in its red Châteauneuf du Pape, which incorporates all 13 grape varietals normally used in the blend․ Beaucastel's white Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a varietal Roussanne wine, which is unusual in the Rhône and even rarer in Châteauneuf du Pape.
Surprisingly, while Beaucastel is known for employing all 13 grape varieties in their red wine, they also use about 5% of their white grape varieties in the final mix.
Best vintages of Château de Beaucastel are 1981, 1985, 1998 and probably 2017.
Older Chateau Beaucastel vintages are hard to come by, but given the estate's remarkable track record for producing highly age-worthy wines, they're certainly worth a try.
