The La Jota Vineyard Company was started in 1898 by Frederick Hess, a Swiss immigrant who founded a German-language newspaper in San Francisco.
The La Jota Vineyard Co. was established in 1898 and is rooted in the Napa Valley winemaking tradition. Today, winemaker Chris Carpenter produces small volumes of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from the winery's estate La Jota Vineyard and the adjacent W.S. Keyes Vineyard.
From the glass, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon has a majestic demeanor. On the scent, there's plum, dark licorice, and gravelly earth, while the palate has blackberry, dark roasted coffee, and toasted oak. This vintage continues the history of exceptionally profound Cabernet Sauvignon cultivated on Howell Mountain's forested slopes.
