Besserat de Bellefon 2015 Le Triple B Brut Nature Champagne – Champagne, France

The Besserat de Bellefon 2015 Le Triple B Brut Nature is a distinctive vintage Champagne combining organic viticulture, exceptionally low dosage and the house's signature fine-bubble style. Sourced from the Vallée de la Marne and produced from a Pinot Noir-led blend, this is a serious, mineral-driven Champagne that balances the richness of the outstanding 2015 vintage with remarkable freshness, tension and salinity.

Rated 95 points by James Suckling, Triple B is among the more compelling expressions in the Besserat de Bellefon portfolio—a vintage Brut Nature Champagne that brings together ripe fruit, chalky minerality, fine bubbles and the precision of a dosage below 3 g/L.

95 Points – James Suckling

James Suckling awarded the 2015 Triple B Brut Nature 95 points, highlighting its citrus and green-apple character, very fine bubbles, refreshing acidity and polished finish.

90 Points – Wine Enthusiast

Wine Enthusiast awarded the wine 90 points, noting its bone-dry character, crisp green apple and fresh lemon flavors along with the texture and minerality that give it further aging potential.

The wine also earned a Gold Medal at The Champagne Masters 2024, where judges praised its yellow-fruit character, creamy autolytic complexity, crisp acidity, lively mousse and impressive length.

Tasting Notes

A luminous, lightly copper-tinged yellow in the glass, Triple B displays exceptionally fine bubbles and a precise, energetic appearance.

The nose is complex and expressive, beginning with lemon peel, green apple and vine peach, followed by ripe pear, red fruit and apricot. With air, more evolved notes of cinnamon, candied citrus and fruit compote emerge, adding richness without sacrificing freshness.

On the palate, Triple B is taut, powerful and mineral-driven. Fresh citrus and orchard fruit are carried by bright acidity and a fine, persistent mousse, while the extremely low dosage allows the wine's chalky minerality and pronounced saline character to come forward.

The finish is long, clean and focused, combining citrus zest, minerals and lingering fruit. It is bone-dry yet not austere—the warmth and concentration of the 2015 vintage provide enough fruit to balance the wine's Brut Nature character beautifully.

Guide Hachette made a similar observation, finding yellow fruit and preserved lemon alongside freshness and elegance, despite the wine's essentially undosed style.

The 2015 Vintage

Besserat de Bellefon considers 2015 an exceptional Champagne vintage. A hot, dry summer encouraged excellent grape maturation, while balanced acidity helped retain the freshness necessary for high-quality sparkling wine.

The fruit for Triple B was harvested between September 9 and September 16, 2015, with grapes coming from approximately 40-year-old vines grown on the calcareous-clay soils of the Vallée de la Marne.

That combination of ripe vintage character and naturally preserved acidity is particularly well suited to Triple B's low-dosage philosophy.

The “Biological” Signature of Besserat de Bellefon

The name Triple B represents Besserat de Bellefon's organic—or biologique—signature.

The house has pursued organic and biodynamic approaches in its vineyards with an emphasis on maintaining the relationship between soil, vines and the surrounding ecosystem. The 2015 Triple B has been identified as certified organic, including by the IWSC.

Triple B also does not undergo malolactic fermentation, an important stylistic choice. By preventing malolactic conversion, the house retains more of the grapes' natural acidity, contributing to the Champagne's citrus freshness, tension and longevity.

Blend & Terroir

Triple B 2015 is composed of:

50% Pinot Noir
30% Pinot Meunier
20% Chardonnay

The fruit comes from the Vallée de la Marne, grown on calcareous-clay soils, with an average vine age of approximately 40 years.

Pinot Noir provides structure and depth, Pinot Meunier contributes expressive fruit and generosity, while Chardonnay brings freshness and finesse.

The result is a Champagne that combines richness with precision rather than relying on dosage for balance.

Brut Nature & Winemaking

With a dosage of less than 3 g/L, Triple B sits firmly in the Brut Nature/very-low-dosage category. This restrained approach leaves little room to hide—the quality and balance must come from the grapes, terroir and winemaking.

Besserat de Bellefon's distinctive Champagne-making technique further contributes to the wine's texture. Since 1930, the house has been known for an approach designed to create particularly fine, delicate bubbles and a creamy mousse.

For Triple B, the combination of low dosage, no malolactic fermentation, mature vines and the naturally concentrated 2015 vintage produces a Champagne of impressive intensity and definition.

Food Pairing

Triple B is particularly well suited to the table. Its low dosage, vibrant acidity and saline character make it excellent with seafood, while the Pinot-dominant blend provides enough structure for richer dishes.

Excellent pairings include:

  • Scallop carpaccio
  • Oysters and shellfish
  • Grilled fish
  • Lobster and langoustines
  • Sushi and sashimi
  • Smoked salmon
  • Marinated or grilled meats
  • Roast poultry
  • Asian dishes with aromatic spices

Besserat de Bellefon specifically recommends scallop carpaccio with lemon caviar, marinated meat à la plancha and grilled fish with Thai spices.

Serve at 46–50°F (8–10°C).

Why You'll Love It

The Besserat de Bellefon 2015 Triple B is an excellent choice for Champagne drinkers who prefer wines that are dry, mineral and terroir-driven rather than overtly sweet or fruit-forward.

It brings together 95-point critical acclaim, organic viticulture, a strong 2015 vintage, low dosage and a Pinot-dominant Vallée de la Marne blend.

Most importantly, it retains Besserat de Bellefon's unmistakable house character: remarkably fine bubbles, a creamy texture and enough fruit to balance the wine's crisp, mineral backbone.
