“Armenia’s first commercially produced 100% Pinot Noir.”

Gold Medal, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2026

A new chapter in Armenian wine begins with Alexandrea Winery 2024 Pinot Noir, an elegant and expressive red produced from 100% Pinot Noir grown in the high-altitude vineyards of Proshyan in Armenia’s Kotayk region.

Significantly, this debut vintage is being recognized as Armenia’s first commercially produced 100% Pinot Noir, making it much more than simply another new release. It represents an important milestone in the evolution of modern Armenian wine and demonstrates the remarkable potential of Armenia’s mountainous terroir for internationally renowned grape varieties.

The wine made an immediate impression on the international stage, earning a Gold Medal at the 2026 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in its very first vintage. The competition’s official results describe ripe cherry and raspberry aromas, elegant red fruit, very soft tannins and well-balanced acidity.

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby in the glass, Alexandrea Pinot Noir opens with expressive aromas of ripe red cherry, raspberry and strawberry, followed by subtle layers of toasted oak, sweet spice and vanilla.

The palate is dry and refined, showing vibrant red fruit, lively but balanced acidity and fine, silky tannins. There is enough richness to give the wine presence while retaining the freshness and finesse that make Pinot Noir so distinctive.

The finish is elegant and harmonious, with lingering red fruit, delicate spice and a polished texture. Alexandrea itself describes the wine as combining freshness and finesse with depth and character.

High-Altitude Armenian Terroir

The Pinot Noir comes from Alexandrea Winery’s Proshyan Vineyard in Kotayk, where high elevation, volcanic soils, abundant sunshine and cool nighttime temperatures create compelling conditions for Pinot Noir.

The vineyard sits at approximately 1,315 meters — more than 4,300 feet — above sea level. The dramatic day-to-night temperature swings help preserve acidity and aromatic freshness while allowing the fruit to develop gradually. The site is characterized by deep volcanic gravel, reinforcing the winery’s terroir-driven approach.

Pinot Noir is famously sensitive to its growing environment, and Alexandrea planted the variety as part of its effort to explore the potential of Armenia for both indigenous and international grapes.

Winemaking & Aging

The 2024 Pinot Noir is sourced from three separate plots within the Proshyan Vineyard, each contributing different elements of fruit, structure and earthy complexity.

The wine was aged for approximately 10 months in barrel, with 25% new French oak, allowing the oak to complement rather than overpower Pinot Noir’s delicate fruit and aromatic character.

Gold Medal — Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2026

The Alexandrea Pinot Noir 2024 received a Gold Medal at the 2026 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, an especially notable achievement for the first vintage of this wine.

The official competition confirms:

Gold Medal — Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2026
100% Pinot Noir
13.8% ABV
Armenia
Partially oak-aged

For a first commercial release from newly producing Pinot Noir parcels, that recognition provides an impressive international validation of both the wine and the potential of its Armenian terroir.

About Alexandrea Winery

Founded by Armenian-American entrepreneur Adam Kablanian, Alexandrea Winery represents a modern generation of Armenian wine producers combining Armenia’s ancient viticultural heritage with contemporary vineyard management and winemaking.

The winery works with traditional Armenian varieties such as Areni, Voskehat and Sireni alongside international varieties including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Its philosophy emphasizes balance, terroir and the relationship between tradition and innovation.

The winery was founded in 2017, and its vineyards now span several distinct Armenian terroirs.

Food Pairing

The combination of bright acidity, delicate tannins and red-fruit character makes Alexandrea Pinot Noir particularly versatile at the table.

Excellent with roasted chicken or duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, pork tenderloin, lamb, charcuterie, grilled vegetables, Armenian dishes featuring herbs and roasted meats, and soft or moderately aged cheeses.

Serve slightly cool, around 55–60°F, to emphasize its aromatic freshness and silky texture.
